Communication support that grows with you
Speech Sense Speech Pathology is the speech pathology business operating from The Therapy Garden Allied Health in Ormeau, providing experienced, individualised support for communication across different ages and stages of life.

Therapy is about more than what happens in the clinic room. It is about helping people communicate, participate, connect and grow in the places where life actually happens.
Every person is different. Assessment and therapy are tailored to the individual rather than assuming that everyone with a similar diagnosis or difficulty needs the same support.

A good assessment should do more than produce a score.
It should help make sense of what is happening, identify strengths and areas of difficulty, and guide what comes next. Assessment may explore speech sounds, motor speech, receptive and expressive language, vocabulary and grammar, narrative, social communication, fluency, phonological awareness, literacy, functional communication and AAC needs.
Speech pathology can also provide valuable information when autism or Specific Learning Disorder is being considered. Speech Sense can assess communication, language, social communication and relevant literacy skills within speech pathology scope and, with consent, contribute those findings to a broader assessment. Speech Sense does not currently provide stand-alone diagnoses of autism, ADHD, cognitive disorders or Specific Learning Disorder.
Groups at the Garden
Small, thoughtfully matched speech pathology groups may be offered for preschoolers, school-aged children, teenagers and young adults during school terms or as holiday programs. Programs may include Ready, Set, Grow; Seeds for Stories; Thriving Readers; Book Bees; and Speech Sound Groups, according to need and availability.
Schools & Early Learning
Speech Sense partners with kindergartens, ECECs and schools to support speech, language, literacy, communication and participation within children's everyday learning environments. Support may include visits, screenings, individual and small-group therapy, classroom observation, practical educator strategies, parent and educator consultation, input into PLPs and IEPs, professional development and Prep-readiness support.
AAC - More Than Spoken Words
For people who benefit from additional ways to communicate, AAC may include gestures and signs, visual supports, communication boards or books, apps and speech-generating devices. The goal is not simply to introduce a tool. It is to help each person access an effective way to express themselves, make choices, participate and be understood.
NDIS Speech Pathology
For people with an NDIS plan, speech pathology may be funded when the support relates to the participant's disability, individual goals and available plan funding. Support may include assessment, therapy, communication-partner coaching, AAC, reports and collaboration with the participant's support team where appropriate.
